Not even driving the bus.

Last night Gannett eliminated our jobs in Production at two sites. We were then invited to apply for three positions that will replace them in Binghamton and Johnson City.

For me, a seven minute trip would turn into 60. For others, it's worse.

Tears and fears all around me. We knew that was coming, but it still surprises more than we expected.

We weren't even driving the bus, just riding the train to the end of the line.

Big bummer! Hopefully something better will be on the horizon.

Hey, Pat -- that's too damned bad. Here's to weathering the storm!

Blogsis and Granny J:

We knew it was coming. I'm riding it out to the bitter end.

Applications are prepped and will be submitted.

My belief: they already know who they want and will snap up those individuals. I'll bet the younger, less expensive models get the positions. Gannett will be all about repositioning themselves for leaner running and future growth.

The saddest victim of all of this is the Elmira Star Gazette, already ripped to shreds and a ghost of its former self.

The First Gannett Newspaper indeed.

It's the way of the world.
